Sunglasses have become indispensable to many of us. They don’t just keep out the dangerous UV rays, but they also express an attitude. A cool pair of shades are our eyes to the fashion world. But with constantly changing trends, how do you choose the right pair? Start by making sure they they fit your facial profile?
There are five main shapes to faces.
If you have a round face, for a good fit, try square-framed sunglasses with colored lenses. Look for straight or angular frames in a deep color such as black or tortoise. They will flatter the features of your face.
Traingular faces are defined by a more broad forehead and also a narrow mouth and chin. Your face can be complemented with thin rims and vertical lines. Sleek oval frames with colored lenses may also fit your profile.
If you are a square, or rather, you have a square face, then you should look for slightly curved frames with the top high enough on the face to offset and downplay the jaw line. Aviators are an excellent choice or even wrap styles.
For an oblong face, which is similar to the square face but with a little more length, your shape looks best with a frame that covers as much of the center of the face as possible. Therefore, avoid large frames, bold colors, square shapes, heavy nose bridges . You may want to experiment on updated classics if you’re looking for a trendy look.
With an oval face, you should choose more shapes than any other. Most importantly, remember to pick frames in proportion to the size of your face.
You should also look for frames that are proportional to your nose. Oversize frames can balance out a large nose. Shorter noses should go for sunglasses with a higher bridge and a light color. Long noses match up with a double bridge and frames with high sidebars. This draws attention toward your temples.
This may sound like a lot to remember, but to keep it simple, go for the frame that is opposite from your face. Think balance and make sure to try on many different shaped frames before you decide on your final choice. Happy shopping.

Question From a Reader: Aren’t Costa Del Mar fishing sunglasses? Which is better, Oakleys or Costa Del Mar?
Answer: Costa Del Mars make a great pair of shades. They also have the polarization in the lens, which is pretty cool, so if they get scratched you won’t see the light spots.
Oakleys are very well known for being well-designed for handling impact during athletics, not to mention for being light and not slipping on you. I’d happily take any of their sport performance models (Radars, Flak Jackets) as one of my first choices. You just can’t go wrong with Oakleys, but my all time favorites are still Costa Del Mar Sunglasses.
