Question From a Reader: Aren’t Costa Del Mar fishing sunglasses? Which is better, Oakleys or Costa Del Mar?

Answer: Costa Del Mars make a great pair of shades. They also have the polarization in the lens, which is pretty cool, so if they get scratched you won’t see the light spots.                               

Oakleys are very well known for being well-designed for handling impact during athletics, not to mention for being light and not slipping on you.  I’d happily take any of their sport performance models (Radars, Flak Jackets) as one of my first choices. You just can’t go wrong with Oakleys, but my all time favorites are still Costa Del Mar Sunglasses.

I have tried the Oakley Half Jackets and I liked them, but the thing is is that everybody wears them.

So I am wanting to buy some new sunglasses soon for everyday use and wearing. I am going to either get Oakley or Costa Del Mar Sunglasses. I know Costas are for fishing, but they seem to be pretty popular and seem cool. I am also looking into Costas because I already have a pair of Oakleys but they scratched. Which sunglasses brand is better for everyday use?

Get the Costas, not just because they are different and you already have Oakleys. They are also more functional and durable, after all, if its used for fishing it'll work for everyday. They've got great reviews too.

So I am wondering which type of sunglasses are better: Costa Del Mar or Oakley. I have a pair of Oakley Straight Jackets, and I like them but the Lenses have gotten scratched and I really don't like that particular style. I am looking for both style and good protection/durability, and am willing to spend no more than $150.

It's going to depend on individual models and your own primary uses.

If I had your own qualifications, I'd probably be looking at Oakley's Flak Jacket XLJ, but they're primarily sport performance and may or may not be what you want for daily "stylish" wear.

If going for style, I might try to find a good deal on one of the Oakley Square Wire models.
